Thank you for your support
Thank you to all who supported the Big Village Cream Tea. Our event on Saturday 7th June was aimed to bring everyone together, to showcase some of the fabulous clubs, activities and organisations that use and offer sessions at the Village Hall, and to celebrate our great village community and the wider community that uses this great facility.
Some of our user groups were on hand to show off what they do, including the WI, Carrick U3A, the Carnon Downs Drama Group, Cornwall Dog Training Club, Yoga with Candice, the Memory Cafe and the Local History Group. It was a wonderful reminder of just a few of the great groups we have who regularly use the Village Hall and the great opportunities they provide for people to get involved.
We served hundreds of Cream Teas, plenty of Pimm’s and fizz, and it was wonderful to see people gathering together in what was a wonderful atmosphere. We had some lovely mentions on our new ‘Big Village Thank You Wall’, which gives people the opportunity to express gratitude to people who have helped them or who have contributed to the community. The wall is staying up for everyone to see, and if you would like to add your own mention to it, please feel free to do so.
We had planned to stage some ‘Open Space’ discussions – a chance for people to bring up conversations on any subject they like, but time was not on our side, and we plan to hold a separate event for this, to open up conversations about future events, ways we can bring our community together, and anything else people might like to raise.
A huge thank you to everyone who turned out, and to all those who volunteered. It was a lovely event and one we hope to repeat in similar form in the future.
Other updates
Plans for the redevelopment of the village hall are underway. We are aware that the information on the village hall website is in need of updating and this is happening as a matter of urgency, so please do bear with us.
We recently worked with the Parish Council to transfer trusteeship of the Playing Field to the Village Hall Trustees, in order that the whole site can be managed more efficiently. We still have the support of the Parish Council and our organisations are working closely together on our shared aims of supporting the community and maintaining our great facilities. We are currently at the stage of submitting planning permission to level the field and for the new village hall, as has been shared in reference community conferences and open meetings. More updates will follow as soon as we have more news.
Fundraising
As we embark on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a fit-for-purpose facility for the village, our fundraising has begun in earnest. We had some wonderful pledges at our recent community conference from user groups of the village hall, and we are now looking to build on this and continue our fundraising efforts.
We are hugely grateful to efforts from our supporters, including the drama group that donated profits from its recent performance of The Park Bench, as well as all those who supported the Big Village Cream Tea. A Clothes Swap is also being held on Friday 27th June to help raise funds.
If you have a fundraising idea, we’d love to hear it, and will always gratefully accept any fundraising efforts that can support this endeavour. Please contact John Frankland, our chairman, with any ideas or offers of support on j-frankland@hotmail.co.uk.
Can you spare some time to volunteer?
We are always looking for more people to join the board of trustees, especially at this hugely significant time for the Village Hall. If you have any specialist experience or skills you think may help, or indeed just have a drive to want to volunteer to be part of helping run the Village Hall and ensure it is the best facility it can be for our community – especially as we embark on this project to create a hall fit for future generations, please do contact John Frankland and we can provide more details. You can also see more details on our poster featured in this edition of Perran News and on boards around the village.
